If you’re already dreading “winter-skin,” read Gina’s below tips to ensure lux hydration all season long.
How can women on a budget maintain a rich, healthy glow? Even though the winter months can be quite chilly, avoid taking extremely hot showers and baths to help prevent your skin from drying out. If you are looking for a quick and affordable head to toe skin fix grab a box of dried milk from the grocery store and add to warm bath water. If you're feeling extremely dry you can even mix in a little raw manuka honey. You can also make a lip scrub at home with brown sugar and honey and gently rub across your lips and next apply your favorite nourishing lip balm.
What are some of the more common mistakes women make in their skincare regiments? Women tend to over exfoliate, which can be very drying and actually cause damage to the epidermis. It's great to remove surface dirt and dead skin cells, however keep it to 1-2 times per week. Make sure to apply a moisturizer which is appropriate to your skin type morning and night to maintain glowing skin year-round.
Which products will keep us well-nourished this season and also include good-for-your-skin ingredients? During the winter months I recommend using a heavier moisturizer like Ayur-Medic’s Enrichment Cream to create a protective coating. This will help to seal in your skin’s own natural moisture factor and prevent dehydration. You can also give yourself a three step at home treatment using their Pumpkin Exfoliant for 3 minutes, followed by the Papaya Enzyme Peel for 1 minute then top it off with the Moisturizing Mask for 10 minutes. I'm also a big fan of Goldfaden MD's Bright Eyes to keep the delicate skin around your eyes hydrated while decreasing the appearance of dark circles.
Is there one concern that women seem to have regarding their skin more-so than others and what can it be done about it? Women tend to start noticing sun spots and UV damage shortly after they discover fine lines and wrinkles. I notice this with my clients who generally range from the ages of 28 to 60. Sun damage does not discriminate and concerns are generally regarding the hands, neck, chest and face. LED light therapy is an amazing way to help bring your skin back to life. This method of rejuvenation with red light therapy, blue light therapy, and infrared light therapy effectively re-energizes aging and damaged skin. LED light therapy is an especially attractive skin care alternative for a variety of needs, ranging from acne treatments to cellulite reduction. Plus...there's no "down" time!
