Alter the Color of your Lip Shades for a Lot or a Little

I love my magazines…Lucky, People StyleWatch, Bazarre and of course, InStyle. I literally read them cover to cover. The ads, the fine print, the captions. It’s like my little retreat from reality. I’m still working my way through the January InStyle (the one with Britney Spears looking all gorgeous on the cover) but was intrigued by a little blurb I saw on Surratt Lip Lustre. The $32 gloss has a variety of shades, but two in particular, Ton (Black) and Teinte (White), will alter the color of any lip shade, giving them either a pastel or deeper, darker hue.

While I don’t doubt the efficiency of the gloss, for $32, well, I would rather spend my money elsewhere. Fortunately, I learned a little trick forever ago that will also change the hue of your lip color, and chances are, you won’t have to spend a dime, and can instead save the money for a new pair of shoes. Use eye shadow. That’s it. I use my white or nude shades to lighten, and darker browns and even blacks to add depth. Start with just a bit on the finger and dab it on until the desired hue is achieved. This will typically make all of your shades matte – just like with all of your matte lipsticks you can use a clear gloss to add a bit more shine.

Use either of these options to easily alter lip shades.
