Clean Drugstore Skincare

One thing I hear from friends over and over is that they would like to use products that are more “clean,” BUT, they can only get those items at specialty stores, and “they’re SO expensive.”

Not so, my friends! I’m here to tell you, that you can get GREAT skincare that’s readily available, and much less expensive than the brands you’re likely purchasing, or have grown up with, such as Olay and Neutrogena.

I did some digging recently at my local Meijer and am happy to report really good options, that were less expensive than what I’m certain some of you are paying for your products. I know because I was shocked at how expensive these items have become:

Neutrogena Hydroboost (what I used to purchase): $20.99
Olay Regenerist: $28.99
Aveeno Calm + Restore: $21.39
L’Oreal Age Perfect: $23.19

While some of the above are more clean than others, all seem ridiculously expensive…yayyyyy inflation🤬

Lucky for you, I was determined to find something that didn’t drain my bank account, and gave me the confidence that I wasn’t doing more harm than good when I applied it to my skin. And guess what? BOTH of those things co-exist, right where you do most of your shopping!

Simple Kind to Skin Beauty

Let’s start with the basics: all Simple products are free from harsh chemicals, artificial color, fragrances (phthalates), parabens, drying alcohol, animal derived ingredients and MIT. Even better, all products are hypo-allergenic, dermatologist tested, non-comedogenic, ophthalmologist tested and pH balanced.

While I LOVE the clean ingredients, even better is the price. Everything in their line available at Meijer was under $13, most under $10. While the only thing I’ve tried thus far from Simple is the Replenishing Rich Moisturizer, based on its’ performance, I’m excited to try some of their other options as well. It’s rich without feeling heavy, and my skin feels amazing after use and even when I wake up in the morning.

bottle of Yes To Avocado Eye Cream

Yes To Skincare

I’ve used a variety of Yes To products on and off throughout the years and this fall found a new favorite: Yes To Grapefruit Facial Cleanser. The scent alone is amazing (unless you don’t like the scent of grapefruit) and it easily removes all of my makeup…even my mascara.

On my most recent skincare trip to Meijer, I picked up Yes To Avocado Daily Eye Cream. Under $11 and just as good as some of the more mainstream versions, sans the harmful chemicals? This is absolutely a no-brainer. My sensitive eye area feels hydrated and smooth, just as I’d expect.

Available with a variety of “fruit and veggie” options, Yes To uses 95% or higher all natural ingredients in each of their products. Most of their skincare products are under $10.

What other Clean Skincare Options are Available Where I Already Shop?

Sadly, not too many! While I do believe many of the more “mainstream” brands have specific lines that offer items that are bit more clean than their standard product options, I think I’ll be sticking to the brands that I know are already free from all of the harmful junk we typically slather on without thinking twice about it. Plus, it seems like the other brands will introduce those “clean-ish” products and then also upcharge us, which doesn’t make sense to me. That’s especially true when the above two brands are showing us that good-for-us doesn’t have to equal a higher price tag.

As I find good options, I’ll pop back in and update this post, but in the meantime, I hope you give these a try! Let me know what you think once you do!
