The Summer holidays often means spending a day or more at the beach, under the sun and splashing around. Sun exposure can be really good for our health, as it gets us some much-needed natural Vitamin D. The salty water of the ocean is ideal for detoxing your skin and also getting rid of breakouts. It is essential you do all this in moderation and remember to look after your skin and hair at the end of the day. While the beach is generally good for you, it can have adverse effects on your skin and hair. Sun exposure leaves your skin dry and may lead to skin damage and premature aging. You may also deal with parched hair after dipping into the salty water.

This does not mean you can’t have fun at the beach! By following these simple steps at the end of the day, your skin and hair will feel revitalized and rejuvenated.

Take a cool shower

It’s normal to not feel clean after spending time at the beach, even if you spent the whole day soaking in water. Most likely you are covered in sand and layers of sweat. On top of that, you have been applying layers of sunscreen and the salty water can make your skin itchy. Wash away any impurities left on your skin with a nice cool shower. A cool shower also helps prolong your tan. Once you’re done, pat dry and apply body butter to moisturize your skin.

Apply a face oil

Like your body, you must wash your face well to remove the sunscreen and all impurities, this is crucial to avoid your pores getting clogged. Since your face is more delicate and also more exposed to the, go an extra step and apply a face oil after your regular moisturizer. Chose something rich that contains plenty of nutrients, such as Blue Lagoon face oil for example, to restore and replenish your skin.

Soothe lips

The skin on your lips is extremely delicate and therefore, vulnerable to damage, especially because of the sun. They tend to be easily sunburned, so you must apply SPF while under sun and reapply it throughout the day. At home, make sure to apply a moisturising lip balm or even an overnight lip mask for some extra hydration.

Apply aloe vera if needed

Although you religiously apply sunscreen throughout the day, some parts of your body may still get a bit red because of the sun. if this happens, apply aloe vera to your skin to relieve the sunburn and soothe your skin.

Do a hair mask or deep conditioning

The sun and salty water dehydrate your hair and leave it feeling crunchy and brittle. After your day at the beach, use a deep conditioner or hair mask and brush it with a wide-tooth comb to avoid breakage.

Post care beach is rounded off by rehydrating your body from the inside out: so, drink plenty of water to restore your hydration levels.
