What I Reached for Most This Month

How is it August already? This month came in like a whirlwind, and I still feel like we’re whirling our way out.
The good thing about those fast moving days? Each day brings a new outfit!
Since I do most of my work from home, there are days if you’d stop by you might think the word, “style,” isn’t in my vocabulary. Old Navy sweatpants and discount tanks from Marshalls are exactly what you’ll find me in and I’m good with that.
But there are other days….
Days when I get to put on something cute, and feel “mostly” like I’m ready to conquer the world. Or at the very least, a project. On those days, these are the pieces that have been on repeat
Loves Jesus and America Too Tee
Sometimes all an outfit needs is one piece that does the talking.
A staple this summer and for others too - it’s nearly sold out at YoCo Boutique! I’ve mostly been pairing it with a few seasons ago cargo jeans but recently found some lightweight denim pants I forgot I had. They have a red and white racing stripe down each side seam and look perfect with the tee. Unfortunately (and naturally, for me) I spilled on them before I took a pic (and they’re still in the laundry), so you’ll just have to trust me on it.😂
It’s easy to adore this top - for those of us that do love Jesus and America, or any fans of Tom Petty (or more recently, John Mayer). Looks great with crossbodies or shoulder bags and delicate gold jewelry (the shirt is making a statement here, you can opt for more minimal pieces).
Weekend or Weekday Outfit Ideas
If I could only recommend one type of outfit, it'd be one that works just as well for lunch with friends as it does for running errands afterward.
I absolutely adore versatile pieces. You know…the ones you can mix-and-match. The items you can wear to lunch or to dinner. And the options that let you mix-and-match with numerous items already in your closet. I’m sharing this outfit that I’ve been wearing paired together, but holy-cannoli. Each of these has gotten extra time in my rotation because they look so cute paired with everything else!

The tee and gingham checked shorts are both from YoCo. I have TONS of basic tees and wear them constantly. But sometimes I want my casual outfit to feel just a little more polished, and this tee does exactly that. The textured fabric and back seam elevate it without making it feel fussy. Now, let’s talk shorts. Ladies, I’m not a short person. I feel like they fit me funny. They ride or I have the age-old problem of fitting through the waist but not the thighs. Somehow, even on my frame, these shorts work! The drawstring is a nice touch, the lining prevents any peek-a-boo moments (and keeps them laying neatly), BUT can I get a drumroll?! They have pockets! A Button-Down Styled for Everyday
Every closet has one piece that suddenly makes sense a few years after you buy it.
An oldie but a goodie - I seldom wore this when I first got it, but this summer, I’ve been reaching for it consistently, once a week. The cropped cut makes it feel less worky and more funzy. And I’m sorry, you just can’t go wrong with a pink pinstripe. One of the reasons I’ve been reaching for it so frequently? It works with all of my bottoms: every silhouette of jean, overalls and as seen here with sweatpants (LOL).
The sweatpant look does deserve a little bit of an explanation: while on a FAM trip this past May, I realized I forgot an entire outfit. Normally, I pack extra (you can also read that as, I overpack), BUT I worked really hard to not do so this trip. Probably the first time ever. And then I left entire pieces out of the suitcase.
The sweatpants are none other than what I mentioned above (this trip they were supposed to be worn strictly for driving there and back). I assumed the shirt was no longer available, and technically it's not, at least, not in that colorway. They still have the shirt, in a variety of cute patterns, available here.
One little bit of style advice before you leave: versatile pieces are worth their weight in gold. You can never go wrong with items that look good with a variety of pieces already in your closet.
